Bringing ETEC professional standards into everyday evidence
How a school can connect teachers’ weekly work and training to the national professional standards, without a separate paperwork exercise.

What the standards are for
The Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) publishes professional standards for teachers in Saudi Arabia. They are organised in three broad domains: professional values and responsibilities, professional knowledge, and professional practice. They describe what effective teachers know and do, and they inform teacher licensing and professional development.
Standards are only useful if they connect to daily work. When they sit in a policy document while evidence sits in scattered folders, teachers end up describing their practice from memory once a year.
A practical approach for schools
- Start from the work you already collect. Lesson plans, assessments, curriculum maps and observations already show professional knowledge and practice. Decide which folders count toward which domain.
- Add the level of detail you need. Some schools work with the three domains only; others add the detailed standards beneath each. Begin simply and add detail where it helps conversations.
- Make training count. Workshops, courses and peer learning belong to professional values and responsibilities. Record them with hours and link them to the standard they support.
- Link goals to standards. When a teacher and Head of Department agree a growth goal, connect it to the relevant standard so progress shows up in the right place.
- Review coverage, not just volume. A teacher with many lesson plans but no evidence of professional engagement has a gap worth discussing early in the year.
Always check the current official ETEC documents your school uses; frameworks are updated, and your school may have its own expectations.
How TeachFolio helps
- ETEC domains are built in, and your school can add the detailed standards beneath each one.
- Folder defaults tag every hand-in automatically, so teachers do not tag the same thing every week.
- The crosswalk links the Ministry’s evaluation items to ETEC domains, so one piece of evidence counts in both.
- The training log and growth goals connect professional development to the standards.
- Each teacher’s appraisal file shows evidence and coverage for every standard, ready to print.
The result is a professional profile that grows during the year, and conversations about practice grounded in real work.
